Instructions
In a mixing bowl, stir together the softened cream cheese, crab meat, coconut cream, lime zest, lime juice, green onions, sriracha, garlic, salt, and sugar until smooth and creamy. If the filling looks a little loose, mix in the cornstarch.
Keep the wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel while you work so they do not dry out.
Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush the edges with beaten egg, fold into your preferred shape, and press out any air pockets to seal tightly.
Pour 2 to 3 inches of oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot and heat to 350°F.
Fry the rangoons in batches of 3 to 5 for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes, or until light golden and crisp. Let the oil return to temperature between batches.
Transfer the fried rangoons to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate and let them rest for 1 to 2 minutes before serving.
Notes
🦀 Dry the Crab for the Best Texture
For the best spicy coconut lime crab rangoon, make sure your crab meat is thoroughly drained and patted completely dry. Excess moisture is the main cause of a loose or watery filling, so taking this step ensures a rich, creamy interior that holds its shape.
🥥 Use Coconut Cream, Not Coconut Milk
Always use thick coconut cream instead of coconut milk. Coconut cream adds a subtle tropical richness without thinning the filling, giving these coconut crab rangoons a smooth, stable texture that fries beautifully.
🍋 Balance the Lime Flavor
Stick to the recommended amount of lime juice to avoid overpowering the filling or making it too soft. Using both lime zest and lime juice provides bright, fresh citrus flavor while keeping the mixture thick and balanced.
🥟 Don’t Overfill or Under-Seal
Use about 1 teaspoon of filling per wonton wrapper and press out all air pockets when sealing. This prevents leaks, bursting, and uneven frying, helping you achieve perfectly crisp and golden crab rangoons every time.
🔥 Fry at the Right Temperature
Maintain oil at 350°F (175°C) for the best results. Frying at the correct temperature ensures the wontons turn golden and crispy without absorbing excess oil. Fry in small batches and let the oil return to temperature between batches for consistent texture.
⏱️ Serve Fresh for Maximum Crispiness
These crispy crab rangoons are best enjoyed immediately while hot. If you need to reheat them, use an air fryer or oven to bring back the crunch without making them greasy.
🎉 Perfect for Any Occasion
These spicy coconut lime crab rangoons are ideal for parties, appetizers, or a fun twist on takeout favorites. The combination of creamy crab, coconut, and lime makes them stand out while still being familiar and crowd-pleasing.
