Equipment

  • Tall glass (clear, for classic melon cream soda look)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon (for gentle swirl)
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Straw (optional, for serving)

Ingredients

  • 1½–2 tablespoons melon syrup
  • 1 cup very cold sparkling water or club soda
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream store-bought
  • Maraschino cherry optional

Instructions

Add the Melon Syrup

  • Pour the melon syrup into the bottom of a tall glass.

Pour the Sparkling Water

  • Slowly pour very cold sparkling water over the syrup to create a bright green soda.

Lightly Swirl

  • Gently swirl once to lightly combine. Do not overmix to keep the drink fizzy.

Add the Ice Cream

  • Carefully place a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top so it floats.

Garnish and Serve

  • Top with a cherry if desired and serve immediately with a straw and spoon.

Notes

  • Use very cold sparkling water for the best fizz and classic melon cream soda foam
  • Start with 1½ tablespoons melon syrup, then adjust to taste depending on sweetness
  • Avoid adding ice, which can dilute the melon flavor and reduce carbonation
  • Add the vanilla ice cream last so it floats properly and creates a creamy foam top
  • Do not fully stir after adding the soda to keep the drink fizzy and layered
  • Honeydew-style melon syrup gives the most authentic Japanese melon cream soda flavor
  • Serve immediately before the ice cream melts into the soda
  • Chill the glass beforehand for a café-style melon soda float presentation
  • For a creamier melon cream soda, add 1 tablespoon milk before the ice cream
  • Garnish with a maraschino cherry for a classic Japanese café look
