  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1–1½ tsp cotton candy extract start small

Float Assembly

  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream optional
  • Sprinkles mini marshmallows, or rock candy (optional toppings)

Instructions

Make the cotton candy syrup

  • In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in cotton candy extract and add a tiny amount of pink and blue food coloring if desired. Set aside to cool completely.

Blend the slushy

  • Add ice, cold water, and cotton candy syrup to a blender. Blend until thick and icy but still pourable.

Assemble the floats

  • Add 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream to each tall glass. Pour the cotton candy slushy over the ice cream until the glass is about ¾ full.

Top & serve

  • Add another scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Finish with whipped cream and fun toppings if desired.

Serve immediately

  • Enjoy right now with a straw and spoon before it melts!

Notes

  • Extract strength varies: Cotton candy extract can be very potent. Start with the lower amount and add more gradually to avoid an overpowering flavor.
  • Syrup cooling: Let the syrup cool completely before blending so it doesn’t melt the ice too quickly.
  • Slushy texture: Blend just until thick and icy; over-blending will turn it into a drink instead of a slush.
  • Sweetness control: Adjust syrup amount based on personal preference and ice quantity.
  • Color tip: Use gel food coloring for vibrant pastel color without thinning the syrup.
  • Layering: Adding ice cream first helps create a classic float effect with foamy bubbles.
  • Serve immediately: Slushy floats melt quickly and are best enjoyed right away.
  • Make-ahead option: Syrup can be made ahead and stored refrigerated for up to 1 week.

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Flavor control: Cotton candy extract is strong—add gradually and taste the syrup before using.
  • Extra creamy: Replace half the water in the slushy with milk or half-and-half.
  • Fizzy option: Use lemon-lime soda instead of water for a bubbly float.
  • Pastel swirl look: Split syrup into two bowls, tint pink and blue, and drizzle separately when blending.
  • Dairy-free: Use dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
