Equipment

  • Popcorn popper or large heavy-bottom pot with lid
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small bowl (for seasoning)
  • Measuring spoons
  • spoon or silicone spatula
  • Baking sheet (optional, for extra-crispy popcorn)

Ingredients

  • 6 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp dill weed or 2 tsp freeze-dried dill
  • ¾ tsp garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ tsp citric acid or 1 tsp pickle juice for tang
  • ¼ tsp sugar optional, balances acidity
  • Optional: pinch of white pepper or cayenne for heat

Instructions

  • Pop the popcorn using your preferred method and place it in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix seasoning: In a small bowl, combine dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, citric acid (or prepare pickle juice separately), sugar, and any optional spices.
  • Butter it up: Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the popcorn and toss gently to coat.
  • Season: Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the popcorn while tossing to distribute evenly.
  • If using pickle juice, drizzle it lightly (½ tsp at a time) while tossing—don’t overdo it to avoid sogginess.
  • Taste & adjust: Add more salt, dill, or tang as desired.
  • Serve immediately for maximum crunch.

Notes

  • Pickle flavor control: Start with a small amount of pickle juice or citric acid and add gradually—too much liquid can make popcorn soggy.
  • Best dill choice: Freeze-dried dill gives the strongest pickle flavor; regular dried dill works but may be milder.
  • Butter distribution: Drizzle butter slowly while tossing to evenly coat without weighing down the popcorn.
  • Extra tang: Add an additional pinch of citric acid or a sprinkle of pickle powder after tasting.
  • Crispier popcorn: Spread seasoned popcorn on a baking sheet and bake at 250°F (120°C) for 10–15 minutes, stirring once.
  • Vegan option: Use melted coconut oil or olive oil instead of butter.
  • Storage: Best eaten fresh; if needed, store loosely covered at room temperature for up to 1 day.
